Introduction

Over a long and illustrious career, Michael Rizzello completed a vast number of public and private commissions and personal works. His legacy includes over 500 sculptures ranging from the monumental to the miniature.

He also designed thousands of reliefs, coins and medals for some 100 countries. His work appears in numerous public and private collections.

Rizzello was inspired by nature, particularly the human form, and by the works of the Renaissance master sculptors whom he studied extensively. He prcticed and valued life drawing as an essential artistic skill and prized knowledge of anatomy.

His studio was a 'bottega' in the traditional sense – an atelier in which all sorts of commissions were tackled and where he passed on his methodology to students and assistants.
